Georgia on my Tweet
Filed under: Georgia, Russia, Twitter; Tagged as: Cyber Warfare, Denial of Service, Georgia, Georgia-Russia war, Russia, TwitterNo CommentsLate on Thursday night I found that my Twitter account was not functioning properly; in fact it still is not working (at time of writing). I discovered that I could not submit any new updates, nor could I view my replies.
Twitter, as well as Facebook and YouTube were the victims of Denial of Service attacks. The target for this particular attack appears to have been a Georgian blogger called Cyxymu, who is very critical over Russian policies in the region. He blames Russian hackers, with instructions from Moscow, for the targeted attack in the attempt to silence him.
This comes a few months after Twitter suffered a major viral infection, thus showing that their systems are still rather vulnerable to those who wish to deny publicity to their critics. They really need to invest more heavily in the the security of their systems.
